It’s no secret that Latinos and other immigrants across the nation are facing escalating threats to strip them of their civil rights and personal security. Nowhere is this danger more apparent than in Arizona. Nearly two months ago, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed into law SB 1070, an extreme discriminatory, anti-immigrant law. SB 1070 requires police to demand ‘papers’ from anyone stopped who fits the profile of someone “unlawfully present” in the United States. Unless suspended, SB 1070 will go into effect on July 29.
MALDEF is among the leaders in the efforts to block this law in federal court. Please join us on July 4 to learn how you can help. With the support of individuals like you, we can continue our efforts to prevent extreme anti-immigrant laws from further harming communities across the nation.
