November 2, 2017

(Los Angeles, CA) - Thomas A. Saenz, president and general counsel of MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund), released the following statement today on the appointment of Victor G. Viramontes as a Los Angeles County Superior Judge. Viramontes has been national senior counsel at MALDEF since 2010, and previously worked as a staff attorney from 2001 to 2005:

"Victor Viramontes is an exemplary and accomplished civil rights litigator, who will be an extraordinary trial judge. Over many years, Victor has very well served MALDEF and its mission to promote the civil rights of all Latinos living in the United States, and he will be greatly missed. MALDEF’s loss will be California’s gain as Victor will prove to be a fair and humane judge who will gain the respect of all who appear before him. We wish Victor well as he embarks on his judicial career."
