The National Parent School Partnership Program is a national program designed to train parents, school personnel and community based organizations to lead in the educational attainment of children.
The program offers:
- National Parent School Partnership Training Manual and Curriculum
- National Education Policy Forums
- National Multimedia Awareness Educational Campaign
The National Parent School Partnership Training Manual and Curriculum provides trainers with complete, easy to follow 16-week sessions, procedures and forms, and best practices to successfully implement and sustain a parent leadership program anywhere in the country. The curriculum offers: parent rights and responsibilities; structure and function of schools; the parent / teacher partnerships; understanding group process; principles of leadership; and the road to the university.
MALDEF’s National Education Policy Forums engages parents, educators, policy makers, community and business leaders, in the discussion and advocacy of current educational issues. An integral part of this component is that parent participants are expected to utilize the format of the educational forums to plan and implement similar ones in their local communities. As a result, strong networks and relationships are established between parents, educators, parent involvement groups and civil rights organizations to support quality education for all students.
The National Multimedia Awareness Educational Campaign is designed to educate the Latino community about the importance of building a partnership between parents and schools. MALDEF is partnering with local and national media to produce several public service announcements in Spanish and English-language television, radio and print media to enhance the community’s engagement in the education of their children.
