St. LOUIS, Mo. – Civil rights groups are suing Missouri state and local officials over a state election provision that disenfranchises voters with limited English proficiency or with disabilities who require assistance in casting a ballot.

AUSTIN, TEXAS –  Today, MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund), the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Texas (ACLU Texas), Campaign Legal Center (CLC), DĒMOS, and Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law filed a lawsuit asking the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas to order Texas’ Secretary of State to produce records responsive to their previous requests seeking information about a state program that threatens to remove naturalized citizens from the voter rolls.

SAN ANTONIO – A voting bill that will make it harder for Texans, particularly voters of color, to cast their ballots is unconstitutional and violates federal voting rights law because it diminishes access to the ballot box, according to a lawsuit filed today in federal court.

CHICAGO – A federal court has rejected a request by Arkansas and local county officials to dismiss a lawsuit challenging sections of the state election code that disenfranchise voters who are not proficient in English.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –  A civil rights organization asked a federal district court to block sections of the Arkansas Election Code because it disenfranchises voters who are not proficient in English, according to a new lawsuit filed.

(LOS ANGELES ) – Officials in Yakima County, Washington must change the system and maps used to elect county commissioners or risk a federal lawsuit, according to a letter sent by a Latino civil rights organization.
