TAMPA, FLA.– A Tampa resident who challenged the denial of financial services by a Florida credit union has reached a confidential resolution with the institution.

The 2022 lawsuit challenging the policies of GTE Federal Credit Union was filed by MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund) on behalf of Nanci Palacios Godinez, a recipient of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.  The case has now been amicably resolved to the satisfaction of both parties.  On Dec. 21, the case was dismissed. MALEF attorneys argued that Palacios was denied a credit card because of her immigration status. GTE denies all allegations brought in the lawsuit.
