ILLINOIS GOV. JB PRITZKER SIGNS BILL PROTECTING EQUAL ACCESS TO PUBLIC EDUCATION FOR IMMIGRANT STUDENTS
SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS – Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed into law a bill that would prohibit public schools from denying undocumented children a pre-K-12 public school education because of their actual or perceived immigration status Friday.

MALDEF STATEMENT ON ILLINOIS STATE LAW EXPANDING ELIGIBILITY FOR IN-STATE TUITION
CHICAGO – This week Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed into law a measure that provides immigrant students greater educational opportunities. Known as Senate Bill 461, the law will allow immigrant students who attend Illinois high schools or community college to be eligible for in-state tuition at Illinois public universities starting in the 2026-2027 academic year.

LOS ANGELES – MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund) today endorsed Proposition 13, a California measure on the March 3, 2020 ballot that would increase funding for facilities at public schools, state colleges and public universities.
